During excavation work on the stream in Hoogeloon, ten bronzen bijlen dating from the Middle Bronze Age (c. 1500 BC) were found. This is a rare find, and experts believe the axes were never actually used. They are thought to have been deliberately placed there as a kind of gift for the deceased, to take with them into the afterlife. A work of art along the footpath marks the spot where the axes were found. The remains of a Roman bridge have also been unearthed in the area.
