The story of ‘ Zwarte Kaat ’
As the name ‘Zwarte Kaat’ suggests, this woman was certainly no charming lady. She lived some 400 years ago in Helleneind, a hamlet on the heath between Bladel and Hulsel. With her thin lips and pointed hawk-like nose, she looked like a witch and led a gang that was feared throughout the Brabantse Kempen for its numerous raids.
Discover the history of our municipality! Bladel boasts a wealth of places of interest, an overview of which is provided below. One particularly special attraction is the ‘Maggiblokje’, the smallest house in Bladel (6x5x4) and also a day labourer’s cottage dating from 1850. Often, the day labourer would also practise his trade here, for example as a cigar maker or coppersmith. This cottage was restored in 1994 and is now a listed building. It now forms part of the bungalow built behind it, serving as a bedroom.
