De Pals
Part of the ‘De Pals’ woodland is designated as a forest reserve, which means that the manager intervenes as little as possible in this part of the forest to allow natural processes to determine its development. For example, after a storm, fallen trees are not cleared away. This is known as a self-regulating forest, where the death of trees goes hand in hand with the emergence of new trees and shrubs. Bladel Town Council invites you to come and see how the reserve is developing. You are free to walk along the roads and paths within the reserve. Old-growth woodland and ancient forest soils are relatively rare in the Netherlands. The De Pals woodland area is home to very old pines and oaks. There are stands of Scots pine that were planted as far back as 1882. It is home to, amongst others, the black woodpecker and red bats.
