Hoogeloon Chapel of Our Lady
Hoogeloon Chapel of Our Lady
At the junction of Hoogcasterseweg and De Hoef on ‘Tonnaike’, hidden behind oak trees, stands a small white chapel with a slate roof.
It features a sandstone statue depicting the Queen of Heaven, complete with a crown. The baby Jesus is holding a globe. Mary is cradling the baby in her right arm. When the chapel was purchased, Mary must have been holding a sceptre in her left hand. This has now broken off, hence the small hole in her chest and the broken-off thumb on her left hand. Two stained-glass windows have also been installed in memory of two soldiers from Hoogeloon who fell in action.
The ‘Chapels Cycle Route’ is available from Visit Bladel and ‘Visit Reusel-De Mierden ’. (Length: 32 km.)
