The sculpture of the ‘Kuuskesrijer’, by Willem Mignot (1971), refers to an old Kempen custom: in the past, when the boar was led from one sty to another, the person accompanying it would often sit on the boar’s thick back.
The whole affair was accompanied by much merriment. The artist wished to emphasise
this merriment even further by placing an accordion in the man’s hands.
This is not entirely inappropriate, as the statue is situated in the Muziektuin near Den Tref.
At the unveiling on 25 November 1971, residents living near the Muziektuin were presented with a flower box as a memento.
