Memorial wall to transport aircraft
Memorial wall for the ‘Picadilly Filly’ and ‘Clay Pigeon’ transport aircraft There was a high concentration of anti-aircraft defences
in Bladel and the surrounding area. The slow-flying, low-flying twin-engine C-47 transport aircraft were particularly easy targets. On 17 September 1944, the ‘Picadilly Filly’ and the ‘Clay Pigeon’ crashed, claiming the lives of both the crew and several civilians. In the Bladel woods, along the Neterselseweg from Bladel to Netersel, stands a memorial wall in memory of these victims.
Set into the wall is a large commemorative plaque made of white natural stone, bearing the names of the 16 victims from the American crew and the 20 civilians. The original monument was unveiled in 1947. The current monument dates from 1982.
