Discover her story
Mie Moors (1872–1965) lived on the outskirts of Bladel and was known in her day as a headstrong and quick-witted market trader. Mie ran a small business dealing in, amongst other things, eggs, chickens and rabbits, which she had picked up from farmers and local residents whilst out and about. She would then take these to the markets in the neighbourhood. To get to Eindhoven, she took the steam tram. To get to Tilburg, she travelled in the back of Jan Dijkmans’s lorry. There she would sit, strapped in, on top of baskets and bundles. Mie outlived no fewer than four husbands. She had more lasting happiness with her fifth husband: together they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.

Another interesting fact
: Mie Moors ’ statue stands on the spot where she used to wait for the steam tram. The story goes that whenever Mie needed to go to the loo and the tram had already arrived, she would do her business in front of the tram. That way, it couldn’t drive off without her.
