The ‘wire of death’: ‘d'n Droad’
The ‘wire fence’: ‘d'n Droad’
During the First World War, in 1915, a demarcation line in the form of an electric wire fence was erected along the Belgian–Dutch border. You can find an example of this in the woods south of Reusel , between cycle junctions 15 and 16. The Wire, also known a d'n Droad, the ‘Wire of Death’ or the ‘Fence of Death’, was a 332-kilometre-long wire barrier erected during the First World War by the German occupiers of Belgium along the border between occupied Belgium and the neutral Netherlands.
