The craft of basket weaving is one of the oldest crafts in the world,
in which the weaver, using few tools – mainly his or her hands –
creates woven work using various centuries-old techniques.
In the past, the craft mainly produced everyday items, such as various types of baskets.
Weaving was typically done using inexpensive materials that could be found anywhere,
such as willow twigs, but also rushes, straw, various types of grass, blackberry canes and other flexible materials.
Nowadays, rattan and pitriet are also widely used for weaving.
Nowadays, decorative items such as prams, bird feeders and so on are also made.
Are you looking for a new hobby and would you like to join us in ensuring this ancient craft does not fade into obscurity? Why not
come and have a look, with no obligation, at how we practise our hobby?
You might well find yourself thinking: ‘This could be something for me too.’

About us
We are an active group of basket weavers from Bladel and the surrounding area who enjoy practising our hobby once a week,
from early October to the end of March.
We mainly weave with willow twigs and reed.
Mid-afternoon, there’s time for a coffee. Feel free to
pop in during this period and see if this hobby might be something for you too.
